Acura RDX or MDX - which luxury SUV is right for you.
November 23 2022,
Acura's newest releases for the coming year are here, featuring two distinguished SUVs, the RDX and MDX. Whether you are looking for a family car or for off-road adventures, Acura offers you the perfect mix of Thrill and Luxury SUV.
These two models might look similar, with few common specifications. However, we’ve arranged this review to go deeper and highlight the differences between these two vehicles.
Exterior
Both cars feature a large grille on the front, with pointy LED headlights on the top corners. However, the Acura RDX tends to have bigger lights extending past the front interface.
Besides that, the RDX model includes several air intakes that smoothen the aerodynamics across the car for better performance.
The LED fog lights come standard in the RDX model, while MDX offers them on higher trims.
However, if you’re looking for extra cargo space, the MDX model provides roof rails on selected trims, while you cannot find this option in RDX.

Interior
The MDX has a more spacious interior that fits up to seven passengers, in contrast with the RDX, which only offers seating options for five. Furthermore, both models offer comfortable leather seats for everyone on board.
In both SUVs, you can find a panoramic moonroof and a multifunctional infotainment touchscreen, which is larger in the MDX model with a 12.3-inch screen. In comparison, the RDX Acura offers a 10.2-inch infotainment screen.
Technology
Both automobiles are embedded with advanced technology, such as heated front seats, steering wheels, and side mirrors. Also, both vehicles have heated rear chairs in selected trims.
Additionally, the two vehicles include USB outlets in both rows to charge your electric devices and a wireless charging hub to charge and store your phone easily.
Safety
When it comes to safety technology, Acura doesn’t fall short. The RDX and MDX incorporate the collision and forward-collision mitigation system to reduce the risk of accidents.
Also, these vehicles use the lane departure warning and the road departure mitigation system to ensure you don’t unexpectedly or unintentionally diverge from your driving lane, saving you from crashing into objects.
Moreover, some systems ensure you envision every corner around you using blind spot detection and cross-traffic assist, helping you back up and maneuver safely.
Performance
The MDX Acura uses 3.5 L and 3.0 L engines (depending on the trim), while the RDX Acura uses the 2.0 L 4V engine, with almost similar horsepower delivery between 290 - 355 hp.
Both types have economical fuel consumption, estimated at 11.3/9.1 L per 100 km (city/high) for the RDX vehicle and 12.6/9.4 L per 100 km for the MDX.
